Law Enforcement Guidelines

Metta Protocol Foundation cooperates with valid legal process while protecting user privacy and narrowing overbroad requests.

1. Acceptable process

• Subpoena, court order, or search warrant issued by a court of competent jurisdiction.
• MLAT or letters rogatory for non-U.S. requests.
• Preservation requests under 18 U.S.C. §2703(f).
• Formal regulatory requests with cited authority.

2. Submission

Serve to legal@mettaprotocol.app with agency letterhead, case reference, requesting officer contact, and a specific description of records sought. Physical service address available on request.

3. Emergency requests

Emergency Disclosure Requests must include a statement of imminent threat of death or serious physical injury and cite 18 U.S.C. §2702(b)(8)/(c)(4). We evaluate each in good faith.

4. User notice

We notify affected users of legal process before disclosure where permitted by law, unless a court order, statute, or exigent circumstances prohibit notice.

5. Narrow tailoring & cost recovery

We object to overbroad or unduly burdensome requests and may seek cost reimbursement to the extent permitted by law.
